The death of actor Lance Reddick earlier this year was a blow to many fans across the worlds of film and video games. He was known for his roles in movies like The Wire and Fringe as well as the John Wick franchise and Destiny, and he also lent his voice to various video game characters. His loss was felt in a wide range of gaming communities, including the Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West series from Guerrilla Games, where he voiced Sylens, a sometimes ally, sometimes antagonist character who was one of the main protagonists in the game.
For the latest update to Horizon Forbidden West, developer Guerrilla Games has created a moving tribute to Reddick that fans can visit in the game’s open-world setting. The memorial, a holographic monument with the actor’s name on it, can be found on the first island in Forbidden West’s Burning Shores expansion. The player can reach it by hopping on a Waterwing flying mount and heading to the spot marked on the map above.
This heartwarming in-game memorial was spotted by players on social media, and Guerrilla Games later posted a Twitter image to celebrate it. It’s a great way to remember the actor and his impact on the Horizon series as well as gaming more broadly, and it shows that the team at Guerrilla Games is still very much in mourning for their late colleague.
The memorial is an important touchpoint for Horizon Forbidden West players as they explore the new landscape of Widemaw Island and the other regions included in the Burning Shores DLC. It’s a beautiful reminder of the impact that the game’s lead actor had on fans and developers alike, as well as of the deep sense of community that Horizon has built up among its players.
Hopefully, Guerrilla will have more tributes to Reddick coming up in the future as he was an incredibly talented and dedicated actor with a diverse body of work. His fans will undoubtedly miss him, but he’s left behind an indelible mark on the Horizon universe that’s going to live on for a long time to come.
